As a Quaker, health care provider, university professor, wife, mother, and global citizen with a commitment to peace and equal access to resources for all people, I oppose war with Iraq for two reasons. I believe that negotiation is the only route to peace. And I believe that the human suffering that will result from war on Iraq is completely unacceptable. What has happened as a result of the war on Iraq has reinforced my commitment to work for peace in this world.

My commitment to children as a teacher for 33 years and as a father leads me to work towards creative solutions to problems, not an unending, ever-escalating cycle of violence. A pre-emptive strike by the U.S. against Iraq is particularly detrimental to the development and acceptance of the rule of law. Global partnerships to limit and remove weapons of mass destruction are wise. War with Iraq will increase the likelihood that such weapons will be dispersed, while also destabilizing other countries in the Middle East.

I am a shop owner, artist, resident of Bryn Mawr as well as a mother, wife, and global citizen. For me, war is only about death and destruction--not right, wrong or gain. I believe there are always alternatives to war - explore, negotiate, create, invent. We just need to begin looking. Join us in this task of turning our government around.

I am 55 years old, a father and Bryn Mawr is my home. In my life, the Vietnam War was a defining element when the leaders took our country into war through fear, intolerance, and a calculated exaggeration of a threat to our nation. In that war, more than 50,000 of my generation and countless Vietnamese lost their lives, for nothing, on the basis of these false premises. I have resolved that I would never again allow my country to make war with such imperiousness, callousness, and indifference.

The reason I'm part of the Bryn Mawr Coalition For Peace is that no one else has the guts to stand up and say NO. I have been a pacifist since 1967. War is no way to have peace.

While I am presently a student at a college out of state, I was born and raised in Bryn Mawr and will always consider myself a member of our community. It is my belief that all the bombings and horrific things that I see on television or read in the paper, these things that are the norms of international politics or US foreign policy, are absolutely criminal and represent a complete affront to humanity itself. I hold true that nonviolence is the only hope for the survival of our species and that rather than perpetually struggling against one another we need live our lives as a constant collaboration, a shared effort which yields the surival of ourselves, our communities, and our planet. I have felt shut of politics since I knew what politics were and I want to make it my life's work to see that no one ever feels that way again.
